"Yep, I agree. Some weight in the front must be used when casting with a fly rod. Even if not on a jig hook I placed a split shot near the hook eye."

Yeah, thanks they are michigan fish caught ice fishing. My hubby Ice fishes 3-5 times a week and knows a lot of good spots after 30+ years.

Slip-I use a  bead between the bottom of my slip floats to cushion the blow it receives  from banging against the split shot when hook setting and/or  popping the float . Those plastic float stems don't split since I've done that .
