Not to dump over the can of worms you opened, but... the fly I would choose if I could only have one and my most productive fly aren't the same thing.

I find the best fly to be a phesant tail nymph. A big bluegill see's the shine of the bead head and goes crazy.
the bully is a great fly for gills,i fish a lot of spiders something about them legs i guess, i know i catch a lot of fish on them.
gators stink
musky is right worms are the ticket,also small crawfish work well.
these fish are hard to catch as a target fish after the spawn ,but small spoons,jigs,and for me a dragon nymph fished low and slow workes almost every time after the spawn.

SUMMER TIME BACKWATER THUMPERS
i catch most of my fish in the back waters of lake chicot,what i call thicket fishing, a fly rod longer then seven foot is useless.
the only cast is a roll cast,your rod never gets behind your ear,it is rare that i use a leader longer then four feet ,you just can not roll a long leader under the low limbs of cypress or
tupelo gum trees not to mention the button wood bushes.
to generate the line speed needed to make those tight rolls i use 6 to 10 wt. line on 61/2 and seven ft. rods . those rods… Continue

I'll always remember a trip to a place called Lake Martin where every bream we caught weighed over a lb. but we had to fight the cottonmouths and gators for every one. I'm in N.Ark.now but my wife is from Pineville,La. I miss fishing those swamps.

My stomach usually doesn't give the scales enough time to join in on the action though.
They are a very different fish I'll say that. The best I have figured so far is that they like the bottom and live bait, not to say that they wont strike an artificial, it takes some real skill though from what I can gather and I really admire those…

I am still trying to figure out how to fish for Redear. I have not had much luck with them. The seem to be pretty smart.

They fight just like a big bluegill. I am told you can eat them but haven't tried yet. The ones we caught today went to a friend who has a pet shop. I wouldn't mind trying them though. They are local to south Texas and I would imagine that they eat…
Oops sorry Zach I forgot about need a trout stamp on your license.
Bank access has improved since they began stocking trout back in the late 90's. As of now State regs require a trout license to fish it during the season ($10). If you plan to launch a boat you will need a permit. Not sure about other options as far…
About the only time you can fish Pawhuska from the bank is when they drop the lake for trout season. There is no cost to fish it.
I know, I will have to try it out this fall when the temps drop a bit. Can you fish it from the bank at all, and is there a cost to fish it?
