10 footers are OK for boats or walking little creeks, but I like a 14, or even a 16 for reaching out from a bank, over thick grass, shrubs, or lilypads. The longer pole gives you the line to reach deeper too.
Cane poles, or their imitations in glas…
Blue gills, red belllies and yellow bellies are some of the best eating fish from the water. Let those high-falutin', high-dollar-boat, big-engined, water thrashers go after the bass, just leave me tied to a tree limb in a little boat with a cane po…
I don't know a thing about fly rods, but I've heard that graphite is a lot more dangerous around lightening than glass, whether a fishing rod or golf club.
That;s right! Manage them right into the skillet. A 3" or 4" bream will scale real easily. Heading and gutting is no job at all. When rolled in cornmeal and fried in bacon fat, they are delicious.
Management of a crowded pond is usually to leave th…
Mustad's Aberdeen has been one of my favorite hooks as well. Over the years, I've found it to be appropriate for many species of small fish and I have landed some large ones as well. Mustad makes two Aberdeen, straight shank, hooks. One has a hollow…

Tom Cadenhead is now a member of Bluegill - Big Bluegill
It used to be the S. Florida Drainage ditches and Lake Okeechobee, then I fell in love with Rodman Pool. My kids convinced me that the most fun was in these little 3' creeks that run all over the swamp. All you need is a 10' cane pole, some mosquito repellant and a couple or three kids.
Do you have a pond? If so, describe it.
I have an itsy bitsy one that I dug years ago. It's in the middle of a wet-weather creek and serves mostly as a nursery for Thomas Creek on the back of the property.

I've heard of loggerheads, knotheads, and dunderheads. What kind of Gwaltney awful name is Cadenhead? Hey! He put me up to this, I'm not usually such a butthead.
Aw shucks there I go making a fool out of myself on line again. Sorry about the whole rooked thing, I saw that was on a different post of one of your pics Zach. I'm a little paranoid about Google, so thats where that came from. I've gotta work on my…
They are a very different fish I'll say that. The best I have figured so far is that they like the bottom and live bait, not to say that they wont strike an artificial, it takes some real skill though from what I can gather and I really admire those…
I was kind of worried about that, but I have seen some variations of Hybrids look this way, or at least that is what was posted on the internet.
We always called these black pearch.
To be honest I do not think the Green Sunfish have the yellow bel…
I am still trying to figure out how to fish for Redear. I have not had much luck with them. The seem to be pretty smart.
Do you have tricks you would like to share on catching these guys?
Did you happen to get the weight of any of these fish?
They fight just like a big bluegill. I am told you can eat them but haven't tried yet. The ones we caught today went to a friend who has a pet shop. I wouldn't mind trying them though. They are local to south Texas and I would imagine that they eat…
Bank access has improved since they began stocking trout back in the late 90's. As of now State regs require a trout license to fish it during the season ($10). If you plan to launch a boat you will need a permit. Not sure about other options as far…
Oh brother, Zach living in Northeast Oklahoma and having not fished this lake before......Let me tell you.
A spring fed 90 Acres of Heaven.
The wildlife department comes in and stocks trout every other week from November until the end of March (bl…
