just ordered the unit and should be recieving by the upcoming weekend and mounted shortly after

Thanks Ken you know I got mine.

cant wait to do some hands on reviews once i get it setup... cant wait to hear from the tubing end also Dick

I received the Elite 4 HDI in the mail today and proceeded to test it on the bench and install all of the maps. The unit came with the insight pro map chip so I thought I would test that out straight away. The map chip was very important in the weight of this purchase. It contained a highly detailed map of Houghton Lake just north of my neighborhood that is known to generate trophy panfish. Booted up the unit and …. Nothing… it did not recognize the maps. Looked on line and sure enough there was a updated version of software for the chipset for the sonar. Downloaded the software update and installed it now works flawlessly. I was able to add the plotter easily to insight genesis and download all of my map creations. Cant wait to break this unit in!!!

You know I'll be pumping you for info since your our Lowrance guru.

lol... let me know if you want help walking through the upgrade and setup.

Yea I will need help for now still waiting on the battery.

one of the current lake maps i finished topo mapping with my Elite 4 HDI loaded on a micro SD card and GPS precisely places me on the map

Looking good. was the depth lines already there or is it something you added. What is the highlited green areas?

Dick this was an area of my neighbor lake that was started last year with my jon boat and Elite 7 HDI. the map had large areas of missing contours so i went out with my kayak and Elite 4 HDI (same model as yours) and filled the gaps with depth contours and weed bed data all recorded on the unit uploaded to insight genesis and copied onto the micro SD card then loaded into the unit as a finished map. All the green area are weeds. main river channel of the reservoir is now clearly marked.

I just got the jon boat ready all I need do is hook up the finder and make an attempt at mapping my pond. I may need help mater of fact no maybe about it I will need some help.

sure... looking forward to it ... there are a couple vids out there that are pretty good. i may be going out tomorow to map a small area north of the bridge ill see if i can put a small video together.
