Introductory brief bio

Greetings to all,  I have loved all things out of doors since childhood Primary activity has been hunting(in fact, I just returned from good Quail hunt this AM). Have fished a bit, mostly with a cane pole, bobber, split-shot and hook with a worm!  Consider myself a 'young 80' years of age and am looking to try something new, specifically Ultra Lite fishing. We're talking Kindergarten level here! I need help about everything from equipment suggestions to techniques , and I'm certain this…

Benjamin I started out with the white colored Trion reel and it works well for the money but the thing that sold me was being a cheaper reel I couldn't believe how smooth it was an smooth reels are everything to me. I purchase 1 or 2 a year for about 3 years then decided if the Trion was that good the higher priced reels or upgrades must be better. I have upgraded I think I have every spinning reel Pflueger makes and pleased with every one.

Keith;; I think Ben is also asking about eagle claw rods;; spin/fly combos;;  or spin rods;; you have any experience with them?

I found this one used it was neglected but hardly used. I'm always refurbishing old stuff and reusing old materials. I use both style reels but the closed faced give me less trouble with light mono especially in windy conditions. I like to fish when when I'm fishing not untangle  line. Check out a few pawn shops or junk stores to see if you pick up a few deals and revive a classic.

I only have one Micro Cast spin cast rod but I have been eye-ballin' some at a local store. I like the one I have it must be 30 yrs. old. I would like a 6 footer. As for reels I have no preference I have Gander Mountain Competitor that I really like it's about $30. This is a pic of my semi-vintage Eagle Claw Combo.

Benjamin I really can't answer your questions. All my reels are Pflueger I started out with the cheaper white models with were so smooth I started upgrading. I own lots of Pflueger reels. I do have lots of ultra lite rods and for the money I would say Berkley rods in the lightning series. I do have different rods but for the price they are sweet little rods. There will be different opinions on the site so ask around my friend what I gave you was my opinion. Sorry I couldn't comment on what your question was I just don't or have ever used then.
